Trio nabbed on suspicion of stealing electricity for Bitcoin mining

Police and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) busted the theft of electricity supply which was used in conducting Bitcoin mining activities, following a raid at six premises here last week.

In the two-day operation which began on March 3, they also seized 363 units of mining machines worth about RM500,000.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Shafien Mamat said three men, aged between 21 and 29, were arrested in the operation codenamed Ops Arus TNB.

He said according to TNB, the utility company had lost about RM2.5 million a year due to electricity theft.
