Trade BTC pairs or USD pairs??

Bitcoin is the future. It is the 401k of the crypto world. So as an investor am I more interested in gaining more USD or BTC? BTC every time. The only reason I trade is to gain more bitcoin and set up my financial future. If I traded a USD pair and made more USD, but those dollars were worth less than the increase I would have made in bitcoin, I have taken a step backwards. I hope this makes sense :)
