Multiple websites have been discovered promoting malicious clones of popular cryptocurrency apps for Mac, bundled with the GMERA malware.
Once installed the malware steals information such as browser cookies, cryptocurrency wallets and screen captures, in other to empty the victim's cryptocurrency assets.
The main executable which is written in the Swift programming language opens a shell script that sends a report of the system configuration to a command and control server as well as opens a TCP connection to a remote host owned by the attackers.
