UK ex pat living in France for 20yrs now I know of no other country that allows you as good a standard of living at all levels of society. When you compare what it costs to live against what it can give you, I am not sure that youll find a country that is on average, or overall as stable and comfortable. The social security is of a very high level. There a few wild animals that will ki.ll and eat you or venomous The medical system is good, but not perfect, and once you have a proper medical insurance, quite cheap, you really have to want to die in france, to die. The Gendarmes are quite possibly the most professional poce force in the world, the town poce overall are pretty good as well The scenery is just astounding, almost everywhere you go. Its really quite clean. Its natural resources are of a sufficient level that they can permit themselves to help out the Americans and English from time to time, rather than be up to their necks in morally unjustifiable wars. You have a very low chance of getting sho.t in France. You have a very low level of street violence, unless the cheese price goes up. The roads are excellent, everywhere. The paying autoroutes, you pay for a reason. The SNCF and TER and whatever railroad stuff. Comfortable and on time. The climate. Snow. Lakes. village ponds plan deau literally flat water big enough to swim in, everywhere edit, not plein deau thank you Clément Romeu Rivers. Mountains and things to walk on everywhere. 1.6 million wild boar. The rt of the fauna would not fit on Ireland.I see at least ten different wild animals every single week. So the french are not worried about starving Heavily armed Hunt clubs, but very few gu.n cris. Sandy beaches. Hardly any pebbles anywhere, the UK lost that lottery The art and crafts world is fabulous. The ftivals and shindigs are sooo much fun. There are so many things flora end fauna growing wild that you could probably survive without actually buying food. Even snails the person who owned the house before me had an escargotier basically a terminal hotel for edible snails, so my garden has become a refuge for hundreds of the things, that I do not eat. I dont eat them because basically it is the sauce that makes a plate of snails nice, same principle with frogs legse french are dcks to frogs Im not going to say the food is the be in the world, as this is effectively impossible to prove, otherwise there would be 1.5billion Chinese and 1.5billion Indians that wake up in the morning complaining that there is no French food to eat and that there is no cheese I think French food is good, but only on a level to Asian/Chinese. As someone else pointed out, France is underrated. Some negative points though about France, which a lot of french agree with me The radio co.ntent is utterly appalling. The DJs are worse than Radio 1 French television, same thing TF1 has a special place reserved in hell Nobody uses their indicators/turn signals when going round corners or roundabouts. They are starting to be way too much fast food. Tea is stupidly expensive. There is hardly any proper baco.n, once your DNA has baco.n programmed into it, you cannot happily live without it. The beer is gassy and bloats you out. Guinness is very expensive. Very few decent non themed pubs. Too much publicity. I only find Marmite in the most rare co.nditions which is annoying, and then find that it is three to six times more expensive than the UK. Ground fleas, tics and wasps, and flies, lots of flies. Apart from that, still underrated. France is a cool place to live. I must admit I hated it ferociously when I followed my now ex wife French back here, but having gotten used to the laid back liftyle and being saved by the internet English TV and radio for example, I found it more and more easy to stay. Personal opinion. I dont want to go to America, although I like Americans. I just know Id do something too wild and end up either in prison or sho.t. I dont want to get eaten by a Canadian bear. I like Germany, but it is not as pretty as France, and hontly, here the French food is overall better. the German beer is on the top of the list though. Lets not talk about crazy as a box of frogs Italy. Australia, been there as a kid, 4yrs. the rt of the world . nope nothing comes to mind. Not even New Zealand because sheep eventually get boring. Any of the other countries have to go by the first list. Im 50 now and trying to live longer, so any country at all with basically dangerous animals and people is out. Sorry for the TL DR!
