Part 1: Bitcoin volatility and confusion
Bitcoin is a volatile instrument to begin with and its volatility has increased recently. Some of Bitcoin's volatility is expected because its value is very much tied to traders’ perception. However, its volatility is also exacerbated by the fact that social media sites and financial media are all over Bitcoin. It is such an emotionally charged topic that makes a perfect discussion topic.

Part 2 Real winners of Bitcoin volatility
The real winner of this game is Wall Street, particularly those who facilitate Bitcoin trades such as Coinbase. I'm using Coinbase as an example because it is one the biggest exchanges specializing in cryptocurrencies. If you look at their complex commission structure, they charge pretty much 0.5% per trade. This means that if you spend say $10,000 to buy cryptos, they are going to make $50 on your trade. This might not sound like a lot of money, but if you take into account their huge trade volume, you can appreciate how they generated one billion dollars of revenue every year.

Part 3 My take on bitcoin
I think that the principles behind the creation of Bitcoin are valid and noble. However, like many other concepts, Bitcoin has been exploited by Wall Street to drain money from Main Street. That is because Bitcoin has been advertised as a speculation instrument. More and more retail traders are encouraged to gamble by trading Bitcoin. Commission fees charged on these trades are a great revenue stream for Wall Street.
