The Chinese central bank - PBoC - was working on a digital currency for many years now, and has now launched large-scale trial runs across provinces, companies and institutions. The official announcement of a formal launch may be for May 2021, but for all practical purposes, the project is practically functional. This e-RMB will have the potential to bypass the US Dollar dominated world trading and markets, and can change a lot of things.
